Sg Lembing Trip - Part 3

This is my final post on my recent trip to Sg Lembing.

Panorama Hill is the popular site at Sg Lembing to watch sunrise and sea of clouds.

# Getting ready to hike to the top of the hill at 5.40am. The track is a mixture of cement walkways and natural path. Try to hike the Panorama Hill on Saturday's morning and off-peak seasons. During peak seasons, this place is quite crowded. This place is not very difficult to hike and it shouldn't be a problem for a first timer.

# It took roughly 45 minutes to reach the top. Once you are there, you can see the sea of clouds above Sg Lembing town (west).

# One must reached the top before 7.00am to watch the sunrise.

# Another angle facing West-South.

# Today is not the best day to watch sunrise... too many clouds

# Sunrise 1

# Sunrise 2

# Sunrise 3

# Sunrise 4 - I think i need to come back again next time.

# A hill in the middle of sea of clouds.

# On the way down.

Don't forget to visit the Sg Lembing Museum as you will pickup one or two pieces of the history of Sg Lembing's tin mining business. The entrance is free of charge.

# Tin in a sand form.

# The tin mining business is managed by Pahang Consolidated Company Limited (PCCL) started from 1906 till it's liquidation in 1986.

# Equipments used to extract the soils to test the contents and other gems found in Sg Lembing mining areas.

# Some daily activities books to record for example workers' attendance.

# Everything must balanced huh...

# Film projector (top) and audio unit.

# Cash register (left), radio (top right) and tele..... errrr.... forgot.

# Fire extinguisher (left).

# Electric generator by G.E.C. Each of the the plant assistant manager and engineers are provided with a Company's car.

Not far from Sg Lembing, there is a waterfall which is ideal for cooling off on a hot afternoon.

# This place also has a man made pool for childrens.

# This Sg Pandan Waterfall is quite nice.

# Some snacks and a suspension bridge.

# Very refreshing.......

Sg Lembing Trip - Part 2

This is my second post on Sg Lembing trip ~ former underground tin mining town.

Not far from the town, one can easily see a signboard to direct to the ex-mining area. During the old days, I think there are more entrance points to the underground tin mining area. I believe many of the entrance points have already been disappeared in the thick bushes or being closed by the local authority.

# There are only 4 entrances left for visitors to Sg Lembing.

# Entrance 1 and 2. These two entrances are quite big. I am not sure how far the mining workers got to walk to reach the lift to bring them down to the mining tunnels.

# Entrance 4 ~ This is the smallest and can only fit, roughly, for two persons - side by side.

Sg Lembing is also famous for it's roasted pork. If you want more details, please read Axian's (Taste with Jason ~ Astro) blog here.

# Why Axian called it as "Saturday Night Roasted Pork Fever'? Because siu yuk lovers can only buy Ah Ting's siu yuk on every Saturday's night... hah hah

# Now... this is the bricks oven to roast the pork. Just take a look at the colour man....

# We ordered for 1kg (RM34.00) of Ah Ting's siu yuk. Eat till you drop. The meat are very juicy and tender when still hot.

# Sg Lembing Ah Ting's Roasted Pork. Visitors to Sg Lembing can call in to order in advance. Ah Ting's house is one of the biggest in Sg Lembing.

Sg Lembing is a very small town and houses are located at the two sides of Lembing river. In order for the people to travel to the town, one need to use the suspension bridge. It's very common in Sg Lembing.

# Kolong Pahat's suspension bridge. It located about 1km from the town.

# Near the Kolong Pahat's supension bridge, there is a famous noodle shop producing Sg Lembing mee. Your trip to Sg Lembing is not complete if you don't eat it. You can order for Sg Lembing mee at most of the noodle stalls at the town area whether it's a curry or soup. But don't forget to try the Sg Lembing ketchup mee (forgot to take picture)!!!

# The owner is busy cleaning the kitchen area.

# One can buy the Sg Lembing mee for only RM2.80 per packet (1kg).

# Taste with Jason ~ Astro. Must be good right?

# The shop owner also sell honey. I bought the royal jelly for RM48.00 only!!!!

Lastly, don't forget to visit the Sg Lembing's coconut cracker shop. This shop appeared in the Taste with Jason ~ Astro's program as well.

# You can many things at the shop ~ coconut crakers, honey and tongkat ali.

Next post: Sg Lembing's Panorama Hill.

Sg Lembing - Part 1 ~ Rest house

I went to Sg Lembing, Pahang, recently. The town is located about 30km from Gambang Toll, East Cost highway.

Sg Lembing used to be a tin mining town. During it's heyday (around 1900's), it's was known as the El Dorado of the East. It's mines are among the largest and deepest in the world.

# Arts on the wall ~ the SRJK(C) Sg Lembing

# Sg Lembing town in the evening (top) and morning. They have the smallest petrol kiosk in Sg Lembing or probably in the West Malaysia? One can only buy petrol from (if i remember correctly) from 7.30am to 12.00pm and 2.00pm to 6.00pm. I bought RM15 of petrol before I left the town on the second day.

# On a wet day. Not much activities during the day time. Most of the wooden shops have already been closed down. At night? Lagi teruk... The most you can find a few snooker centers and kopitiams. The mines were closed down in 1986 due to high operational costs and dropped in the world tin prices.

# The above is the rest house where I have stayed for 1 night. The rate can be considered reasonable ie RM40 for twin bed. If you have 4 persons, you can add RM20 extra for an extra bed. This rest house is located in the town area and very near to the market (for breakfast or lunch) and Panorama hill.

# This rest house is just like our home. You can almost find anything inside there.

# Want to play mahjong, UNO or 'Chor Tai Dee'... it's not a problem. Guests can watch Astro too. The only cons: No PS2 or Xbox... hah hah. Plus, each room has it's own split air-con.
